Hi all, just a little reminder to please “like” or visit our Facebook page to receive all the latest updates and meet details. Parents tell us they are so happy to have had the opportunity to try out or borrow carriers from our free and informal meet ups, so please do come along and join in the fun. I hope you enjoy browsing the rest of the website, perhaps to get an overview of the different kinds of slings or to browse the library stock held at present. Don’t forget to check out our retailer page to see which vendors and manufacturers have so generously donated to our non-profit Sling Library and, of course, to find out where you could buy your own carrier.
I hope to see you at a Sling Meet or Sling Library opening day soon.
The next Sling Meet and Library opening will be on Wednesday between 10am and 12pm at 7 Cooil Drive, Douglas. That is in the housing estate next to Pets At Home and Agrimark. I’ve been unwell over the weekend so haven’t had the opportunity to prepare as much as usual so keep your expectations low!
Thank you to all the mums who came to our International Babywearing Week event at the Tower House last month. It was so lovely to have a trip out for a change, and I’d love to do some more cafe meets in the new year. I need to especially thank the mums who were able to pose for a group photo which won us a runner up prize of a new Moby wrap for the library, in Slumber Roo’s IBW competition as well as a Boba discount voucher which will find its way to a local mum sometime soon. Slumber Roo worked closely with Babywearing UK to provide a playdate pack to national Sling Libraries which came packed full of goodies such as hats, suck pads, a rainproof cover and discount vouchers. I’m so grateful to both groups for putting in so much hard work to benefit libraries across Britain, most of which run on a voluntary basis and are reliant on donations such as these to grow and help families as much as possible.
The next sling meet will be on Wednesday and in honour of International Babywearing Week we shall be treating ourselves to a trip out! The plan is to meet at 10am in Franklins Deli (Tower House cafe) where you can purchase a coffee and snack if you wish. I will set up in the old smokers area that is raised up next to the hairdressers. If the weather holds out we may take a little walk along the prom later on. I’m sure my smallest would be delighted with a visit to the playground along the prom. Due to the sheer amount of items we now have, I won’t be able to bring all of the library along, but I will happily bring carriers on request, so please do let me know if there’s anything in particular you would like to try or borrow. I will definitely bring at least one of each style of carrier and we can always arrange a pick up later on if there is something anyone desperately wants to borrow that I left behind.
I will do a proper post a bit later to introduce the new items but I received a very exciting pack from www.babywearing.co.uk and Slumber Roo for our IBW 2012 playdate packed full of useful and gorgeous slings and accessories. I’m particularly loving the purple Babasling, Manduca suck pads and the Close Parent Cocoon weather cover which I’m sure will be in demand this winter, and there were lots of other goodies and leaflets to share.
Thank you to all the mums who came along to our Birthday Party last time. I hope you all had a great time. It was fantastic to have so much help on the day and there are a few people who deserve particular mention notably Siobhan for making the yummy cake, Nicki for taking such beautiful photos some of which are attached below, Gill, Katie and Siobhan for helping set up and clear away, and Carole for donating the gorgeous cake topper (498491 for delicious and beautifully decorated cakes for any occasion). I’d also like thank these other mums for their specific contributions over the last year: Mary Burley from the Ellan Vannin Chiropractic Clinic for hosting our very first meeting (www.evchiropractic.co.uk), Debs for donating slings and Katie for helping out at meets. And, of course, thanks and well done to all the mums and dads who carry their babies, spread the word and make our Sling Meet & Library a lovely place to be.
Isle of Man Sling Meet is turning ONE!! So come and join us for a birthday celebration on Thursday 20 September from 10am at the St Johns Methodist Church Hall. There will be an optional group photograph at 11am in the Arboretum (bring wellies and umbrella if wet!!). We’ll have toys, tea and cake and, of course, slings. You’re also welcome to bring a picnic lunch. As we are a not-for-profit group contributions towards covering the hall costs will be gratefully received.
Next Sling Meet is on Wednesday 29 August between 10.30 am – 12.30 pm at 7 Cooil Drive, Douglas. This is in the housing estate next to Pets at Home / Agrimark. It’s my home so there is toys and child friendly space, plus refreshments to share. If you haven’t already then ‘like’ us on Facebook for more frequent updates and useful sling and soft carrier information. See you soon Sam x
The next sling meet will be coming up next week on Tuesday 14th from 10.30am to 12.30pm at 7 Cooil Drive, Douglas. That is in the housing estate next to Pets At Home and Agrimark. The library will be opening also, but don’t feel that you need to want to borrow a sling or have a carrier problem to come along to sling meet. I know there are loads of us on the Island who have successfully used slings and have lots of knowledge and experience that would be helpful to other mums. There’s always lots of general chatter about our babies and parenthood too. Hope to see you all soon x
Next Sling Meet is on Monday 30 July between 10.30 am – 12.30 pm at 7 Cooil Drive, Douglas. This is in the housing estate next to Pets at Home / Agrimark. See you soon Sam x
Our newest library carrier has arrived with me this morning. It is a Rose & Rebellion SSC (buckle carrier) in the gorgeous Margarita print. This is one of the smaller buckle carriers we have, so it’s suitable for babies of a few months old and fills a nice gap after the newborn stagewhere some of the other buckles are still too wide for baby to sit in comfortably. I’ve also noticed that the straps are slightly narrower which might work well for those who are petite or have smaller shoulders.
Rose & Rebellion, who are a British manufacturer by the way, also make very well regarded preschool sized carriers which are suitable from approx 2.5y upwards. Excitingly, they sometimes offer to customise carriers to your own design. They sell some nice accessories in their shop as well. You can find their website at http://www.roseandrebellion.com/ for more information.
Next Sling Meet is on Wednesday 11 June between 1 – 3.30 pm at 7 Cooil Drive, Douglas. This is in the housing estate next to Pets at Home / Agrimark. It’s my home so there is toys and child friendly space, plus refreshments to share. Hurrah, freshly arrived on my doorstep is a Bondolino for the Sling Library. This is a structured carrier that fastens with velcro and knots rather than buckles. It’s made out of woven wrap fabric so it’s soft, with lots of padding for comfort. The Bondolino is suitable from newborn up. It’s a popular carrier with other UK Sling Libraries so I’m really pleased to be able to add it to our stock. Our is in the black/sand colourway and they have lots of other lovely combinations too. This is definitely a dad friendly carrier.
Many, many thanks to Hoppediz for sending it to us.
